Bhindi Mirchi Ki Sabji is an authentic dish. It is a famous delicacy often, made at ceremonial occasions. Here, is the dish with all the important tips. It is simple and healthy. Moreover, it is a no onion no garlic dish. The main ingredients are bhindi/okra and green chilies. It requires spices like coriander seeds powder, red chili powder, fennel seeds, all spice mix powder, and turmeric powder. The lemon juice and fennel seeds add a different flavor to it. Tips and suggestions by the Mom Chef:-

  • The use of oil for making this dish is more than regular time, so that the bhindi does not stick and burn from the bottom.
  • Pat dry the bhindi completely.
  • Apply oil or lemon juice to the knife so that the stickiness of the bhindi reduces.
  • Coarsely grind the fennel seeds.
  • Adding lemon juice to the sabji helps to retain the color of the bhindi.

Ingredients

  • Oil - 2 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida powder/Hing powder - a pinch
  • Okra/Bhindi - 2 to 3 cups (long cut pieces)
  • Green chili/Hari mirch - 4 to 5 (long cut pieces)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric powder/Haldi powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander seeds powder/Dhania powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder/Lal mirch powder - 1 teaspoon
  • All spice mix powder/Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fennel seeds/Saunf - 1 teaspoon (coarsely ground)
  • Lemon juice - of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a wok/kadhai. Put the cumin seeds, asafoetida powder and long cut bhindi pieces. Mix well so that the oil coats evenly on the bhindi. Saute on medium flame.
  2. Put the long cut green chili pieces and mix together. Put salt to taste and turmeric powder and mix well. Cover and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Check in between and keep mixing. Cover again and cook. Keep checking and cook till it becomes soft. It takes about 7 minutes to cook.
  4. Put the coriander seeds powder, red chili powder, all spice mix powder, and coarsely ground fennel seeds. Squeeze lemon juice of one lemon. Mix well.
  5. The Bhindi Mirchi Ki Sabji is ready to be served.
