Leftover Bread Dhokla is an innovative and easy dish.

Leftover Bread Dhokla is a delicious dish. The dhokla preparation mainly requires besan/gram flour. This is a wonderful dish, with a twist to the regular dhokla preparation. For this dish, you require bread to make a spongy  dhokla. Besides, making sandwich you can use bread to make this yummy and amazing dish. Serve the dhokla with green chilies and sauce or chutney of your choice. So, try this recipe and let us know your feedback in the comment section.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can take bread of your choice.
  • Dry grind the bread to make crumbs.
  • If the suji absorbs water, then add more water to make the dhokla mixture of thick consistency.
  • If you want you can add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in place of fruit salt.
  • Make the dish using Homemade Curd
  • For making the dish you can use the Adrak Hari Mirch ka Paste | Ginger Green chilli Paste

Ingredients

  • FOR DHOKLA:
  • Whole wheat bread crumbs - 1 cup (of 4 to 5 slices)
  • Semolina/Suji - 1 cup
  • Curd/Dahi - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric powder/Haldi powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon + greasing
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Ginger-green chili paste/Adrak-hari mirch paste - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fruit salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder/Lal mirch powder - to taste
  • FOR TEMPERING:
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Asafoetida powder/Hing powder - a pinch
  • Mustard seeds/Rai - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds/Til - 1 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Green chili/Hari mirch - 2 to 3 slit

Instructions

  1. FOR DHOKLA:
  2. In a bowl, put the bread crumbs, suji, curd, salt to taste, turmeric powder and oil. Mix well together.
  3. Add water in small quantity and mix. The mixture should be of thick consistency. Rest the mixture for 15 minutes.
  4. Boil the water in the steamer. Meanwhile, grease the pan with oil and put the mixture in it. Once the water starts boiling, place the pan on the stand in the steamer.
  5. Cook the dhokla for 15 minutes. Check by putting a knife in the dhokla, if it comes out clean then it is well-cooked. Take it out and allow it to cool down. The dhokla leaves the sides of the pan and comes out easily.
  6. FOR TEMPERING:
  7. Heat 1 tablespoon oil, put the asafoetida powder, mustard seeds, sesame seeds, curry leaves and green chili. Switch off the gas flame.
  8. Pour the tempering on the dhokla and cut in pieces.
  9. The Leftover Bread Dhokla is ready to be served.
