Moongdal Dahi Bhalla is a festival special dish.

Moongdal Dahi Bhalla is a delicious, tangy, and spicy dish that is famous across India. It is one of the most common dishes for Indian weddings, festivals, birthday parties, or get-togethers. It is usually served with sweet curd , coriander chutney, and meethi chutney as accompaniments. Curd-based snacks are always the favorite dish of kids as well as elders. Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:

  • The ratio of moong dal to urad dal should be 1:2.
  • The dal should be soaked till it becomes soft.
  • The curd shouldn’t be sour.
  • FOR PREPARING DATES CHUTNEY : Add 10 g.m. tamarind to 250 g.m. dates.

Ingredients

  • Yellow gram / Moong dal - 2 Cups
  • Whole white gram / Urad dal - 1 Cup
  • Ginger / Adrakh - 3 Inch chopped
  • Green chilli / Hari mirchi - 3 to 4 chopped
  • Coriander leaves / Hara dahaniya - A handful
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Water - As required
  • Oil - For frying
  • Curd / Dahi - 2 Cups
  • Sugar / Chini - 3 tsp
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Dates chutney / Meethi chutney - As required
  • Green chutney / Hari chutney - As required
  • Red chilli powder / Lal mirchi powder - For garnishing
  • Roasted cumin seeds powder / Jeera powder - For garnishing
  • tsp = teaspoon
  • tbsp = tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak both dal separately for 6 to 7 hours till it becomes soft. Then drain the water completely.
  2. Then transfer them to a grinding jar. Add ginger, green chilli, salt, little water, and coriander leaves. Grind it to prepare medium thick consistency batter
  3. Meanwhile, heat oil in a deep frying pan. When the oil is hot, drop a spoonful of batter. Fry them on high flame for 1 to 2 minutes. Then keep the flame medium.
  4. Deep fry all bhalle until they become crispy and light golden brown from all sides. Then, take them out on a plate using a slotted spoon.
  5. Now take a pan of water. Add prepared bhalle to the pan. Soak them for 5 to 7 minutes.
  6. Then press them gently with your hands to squeeze water. Arrange them in a serving plate.
  7. Take whisked curd. Add salt & sugar. Mix well. Pour it on the vadas of the serving plate.
  8. Now add dates chutney and green chutney. Then sprinkle salt, red chilli powder, and roasted cumin seeds powder.
  9. 'Moongdal Dahi Bhalla' is ready to be served.
