Zebra Cake | Eggless Zebra Cake is a sweet, super flavorful, and perfectly moist cake.

Zebra Cake | Eggless Zebra Cake is delicious and comes together so effortlessly. It is the perfect cake for kids, but let’s be real, adults love it too. It’s obviously beautiful and delicious. This cake is a special recipe that has vanilla and chocolate batter layered in a pan which creates a beautiful zebra cake. This sponge layer cake is easy enough for beginners but is beautiful enough for even the fanciest of celebrations. It looks kind of complicated, but it is easier to make than you think, so try this easy, moist and beautiful zebra cake recipe. Do share your feedback as well.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:

  • Whole wheat flour can be used instead of refined flour for the cake.
  • To avoid the bubbles in the batter, the cake tin should be tapped a little bit.
  • Depending upon the oven, baking time and temperature may vary.
  • If the oven door is opened many times, there is a high chance that the cake will sink.
  • The size of butter paper should be the same as that of the cake tin to avoid the stickiness of the cake.
  • Odorless vegetable oil should be used to make the cake.
  • The refined flour should be sieved to make the cake fluffy.

Ingredients

  • Refined flour/Maida - 1 & 1/2 cup
  • Cocoa powder - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Baking powder - 1 & 1/2 teaspoon
  • Powdered/Crushed sugar - 1 cup
  • Oil - 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla essence - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven at 180 degree Celsius for 10 minutes.
  2. To remove its lumps, sieve the crushed sugar in a bowl. Add oil and milk in it and mix well.
  3. Add maida, baking powder, salt and vanilla essence. Mix it properly.
  4. Divide the batter into two parts. In one portion, add the cocoa powder and mix well. Keep the other portion plain.
  5. Brush a cake tin with oil. Line it with a butter paper and grease it again with oil. Then, pour a spoonful of the plain batter in the middle of the cake tin. Then pour a spoonful of the chocolate batter in the centre on the top of the plain batter. Repeat this process till the two batters are over.
  6. Take a toothpick and slide it lightly from the middle to the circumference of the cake batter. Similarly, draw a few more lines from the middle to different points on the circumference of the batter. Tap the cake tin gently to level the batter and also remove air bubbles from it.
  7. Put the cake tin in the oven for baking. Bake the cake at 180 degrees Celsius for 30 - 35 minutes. After 30 minutes, check the cake by inserting a toothpick. If it comes out clean then the cake is ready.
  8. Once done, take the cake tin out of the oven, and let it cool at room temperature. De-mould the cake and remove the butter paper.
  9. 'Eggless Chocolate Zebra Cake' is ready to be served.
