Zero Oil Chole | Oil Free Chole is a spicy and healthy side dish.

Zero Oil Chole | Oil Free Chole is a tasty and easy dish. You can easily prepare this healthy sabji without oil. In addition, this is a delicious and mouth-watering sabji to serve for lunch or dinner with naan, paratha, or kulcha. Moreover, it does not require any elaborate preparation so it is easy to prepare. So, try to prepare this tasty sabji at home and do not forget to share your feedback in the comments section.

Tips and Suggestions by the Mom Chef :

  • Whole dry spices can be added as per choice and availability.
  • Water should be added till the chole completely submerged in it.
  • You can add boiled tea water to the chole instead of tea bag.
  • A pinch of baking soda should be added to the chole to cook it fast.
  • The cooker should be cover with its lid, only after the water boils.
  • The tamarind chutney is optional.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the chole as per choice because chole will absorbs the water after some time.

Ingredients

  • Chickpea / Chhole - 1 Cup
  • Water - As required
  • Onion / Pyaz - 1 Finely chopped
  • Tomato / Tamatar - 1 Finely chopped
  • Ginger / Adrak - 1 Inch julienne
  • Green Chilli / Hari Mirchi - 2 Finely chopped + 1 For garnishing
  • Chole Masala - 1 tsp
  • Dry Fenugreek Leaves / Kasuri Methi - 1 tsp
  • Pomegranate Powder / Anardana Powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon / Dal Chinni - 1/2 Stick
  • Bay Leaf / Tej Patta - 1
  • Black Cardamom / Badi Elaichi - 1
  • Black Peppercorns / Kali Mirch - 4 to 5
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Red Chilli Powder / Lal Mirch Powder - 1 tsp
  • Roasted Cumin Seeds Powder / Jeera Powder - 1 tsp
  • Tea Bag - 1
  • Baking Soda - A pinch
  • Tamarind Chutney / Imali Ki Chutney - 1 tbsp
  • Coriander Leaves / Hara Dhania - A handful + For garnishing
  • Onion Rings / Pyaz Rings - 3 to 4 For garnishing
  • tsp = teaspoon
  • tbsp = tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Soak chickpeas overnight. Then strain it and transfer soaked chickpeas to a pressure cooker.
  2. Now add onion, tomato, ginger, green chilli, chole masala, dry fenugreek leaves, pomegranate powder, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, black cardamom, black peppercorns, salt, red chilli powder, and roasted cumin seeds powder. Mix well.
  3. Then add water till the chole completely submerged in it. Mix well.
  4. Now add tea bag and baking soda. mix well and bring it to boil. Then cover the cooker with its lid.
  5. Cook it on high flame till 1 whistle. Then keep the flame low and cook it till 5 to 7 whistles.
  6. Once done, turn off the flame and let it cool down. Then open it and remove bay leaf and tea bag. Mix well.
  7. Boil it for 1 to 2 minutes on medium flame. Keep stirring it in between.
  8. Now add tamarind chutney and coriander leaves. Mix well.
  9. Once done, turn off the flame and slightly mash the chole. Take it out in a serving bowl. Garnish it with onion rings and green chilli.
  10. 'Zero Oil Chole | Oil Free Chole' is ready to be served.
