Idli | Soft Spongy Idli is a mouthwatering dish for everyone. 

Everyone loved and enjoy ‘Idli | Soft Spongy Idli’ with chutney and sambar. This is quick and simple to prepare if you follow some tips and tricks. This uses a batter of rice, urad dal/black gram and the secret ingredients – poha/flattened rice and fenugreek seeds/methi dana. These ingredients make the idli soft and spongy. Idli is a very healthy and delicious breakfast and meal. This is gut-friendly and acts as pro-biotic. One should include this dish in the meals. Kids also enjoy this dish hence it can be a good tiffin snack for them. So, try to make this yummy dish at home and enjoy with your family and friends.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Make this dish using Idli Dosa Batter | Homemade Idli Dosa Batter.
  • Do not overfill the moulds with batter as it will rise while steaming.
  • Boil water in the vessel or steamer before putting the mould.
  • Serve the idli with Coconut Chutney and Mungfali Gunpowder.

Ingredients

  • Idli Batter - as required
  • Oil - as required for greasing
  • Ghee/clarified butter - as required for greasing

Instructions

  1. Heat water in a steamer or in a vessel. Place a stand or empty idli mould at the bottom.
  2. Grease the idli mould with oil. Then pour the batter in each cavity or mould. Do not overfill it.
  3. Once the water is boiled, place the idli mould in the steamer or vessel. Cover it and let it steam for 10 to 12 minutes. If you are using a pressure cooker then remove the whistle then steam it.
  4. Once done, take the mould out and let it cool for a while.
  5. To remove the idli from the mould, take a spoon or a knife. Wet it with water the remove the idli.
  6. Delicious 'Idli | Soft Spongy Idli' is ready to be served. Pour some ghee on top and serve it with chutney, podi/gun powder.
