Methi Thepla | Gujarati Methi Thepla is a mouthwatering and very healthy flatbread.

Methi Thepla | Gujarati Methi Thepla is a very popular and delicious dish. This uses methi/fenugreek leaves, whole wheat flour, gram flour, curd and some spices. This is soft in texture with amazing taste. This is a healthy snack, breakfast, lunch and dinner option. You can serve it with pickle or curd or any sabzi. You can carry this thepla while travelling too. It is very easy to prepare with minimal ingredients. So, try to make this thepla at home and enjoy with your family.

This dish was prepared by Shraddha Thakrar – A lovely grand mom from Mumbai.

Tips and Suggestion by Mom Chef:-

  • For making the thepla soft the dough should be rested for at least 10 minutes before making it.
  • Any of water or milk or curd can be used to knead the dough.
  • The methi/fenugreek leaves should be washed and dried completely.
  • A thepla will last longer for 2 to 3 days while travelling, for up to a week, if stored in the refrigerator, and for up to a month in the freezer.
  • This thepla can be served with Mango Pickle | Aam Ka Achar or Kairi Ki Khatti Meethi Chutney | Raw Mango Jam.

Ingredients

  • Fenugreek/Methi Leaves - 1 Cup
  • Whole Wheat flour - 1 Cup
  • Gram Flour - 1 Tablespoon
  • Ginger-Garlic-Green Chilli paste - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder - to taste
  • White Til/Sesame Seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Black Til/Sesame Seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Curd - as required, to knead the dough
  • Oil - 2 Teaspoon for the dough + for roasting

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add whole wheat flour, gram flour, chopped methi/fenugreek leaves, ginger-green chilli-garlic paste, salt, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black and white sesame seeds, and 2 teaspoon oil. Mix everything well.
  2. Add curd to it and knead a semi soft dough. You can either rest the dough for 10 to 15 minutes or use it immediately.
  3. Take a small portion of the dough and dust it with flour. Roll it to make a thepla.
  4. Meanwhile, heat a tawa. Grease it with oil.
  5. Cook the thepla on a low flame on one side. Flip it and cook it on a medium flame. Apply oil on both the sides and cook.
  6. Once cooked, take it out on a plate.
  7. Delicious 'Methi Thepla' is ready to be served.
