Rava Idli | Sooji Idli | Instant Suji Idli is a quick, yummy and healthy breakfast which is an oil-free recipe.

Rava Idli | Sooji Idli | Instant Suji Idli is soft and spongy idli made with semolina. This does not require much preparation and time. You just require semolina/sooji/rava/suji and curd. This gets ready within minutes hence it is a perfect breakfast option for busy mornings. This is an instant breakfast recipe which can be made when you are not in a mood to cook elaborate breakfast. Here is an easy recipe to prepare rava idli with tadka. So, try to make this instant idli at your end and enjoy with your loved ones.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Fruit salt (eno) is an important ingredient to make instant idli. Add fruit salt to the batter just before steaming the idli.
  • It is important to boil the water in the steamer before putting the idli moulds. Else, the idli will not be fluffy.
  • You can serve this idli with Coconut Chutney or Peanut Chutney.
  • If you want you can pour tadka over idli before serving.

Ingredients

  • Rava/ sooji/ semolina - 1 Cup
  • Beaten Fresh curd - 1 Cup
  • Salt/ namak - as per taste
  • Fruit Salt ( Eno ) - 3/4 Teaspoon
  • Water/ pani - 1/4 Cup or as required to make thick batter
  • FOR TADKA -
  • Oil/ tel - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds/ raai - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chilli (chopped in long and thin slices) - 1 tablespoon
  • Curry leaves - 8 to 10
  • Coriander leaves/ dhaniya patta - a hand full

Instructions

  1. Add semolina and salt into curd and mix well. Add water if required and the batter must be thick enough like idli batter.
  2. Heat water in an idli steamer on a medium flame. Bring it to boil.
  3. Meanwhile, add eno to the idli mixture and mix it with a light hand.
  4. Pour the above batter into idli mould and cover and cook for next 12 to 15 minutes till it gets fluffy.
  5. Check the idli by inserting a knife/tooth pick. It should not get sticky. Switch off the gas once it is done. Let them cool.
  6. Take out all idlies and let us prepare tadka.
  7. TADKA - Heat oil in a pan on a medium flame and add mustard seeds, curry leaves and chopped green chilies. Put off the gas once the seeds start crackling.
  8. Pour the tadka on the idlies and garnish the dish with fresh coriander leaves.
  9. Healthy breakfast 'Rava Idli | Sooji Idli | Instant Suji Idli' is ready to be served with coconut chutney.
