Instant Matar Idli | Sooji Matar Idli is a popular and instant version of the traditional South Indian idli.

Instant Matar Idli | Sooji Matar Idli is a quick and easy to prepare idli. It is a simple way to prepare instant idli without fermentation. It is soft, moist, and fluffy in texture. The flavor of peas and chili makes it more delicious. It is great to be served for a healthy and light breakfast or can even pack in your child’s lunch box. Relish it with coconut chutney or tomato chutney or peanut chutney or garlic chutney or podi or sambar. Try to prepare this unique recipe and enjoy it with everyone. Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can also add buttermilk instead of curd.
  • If you are using curd, then make sure, to use homemade sour curd.
  • Always place the idli maker holes alternatively.
  • Always add soda to the batter at the end and immediately steam the batter.
  • Make sure, to mix the batter in one direction.
  • Always pour the batter into 3/4 of the mould. As the idli puffs after steaming.
  • It is necessary to rest the batter as the sooji absorbs the water.
  • Adjust the spices as per the requirement.
  • Serve it hot for better taste.

Ingredients

  • Sooji/ semolina - 2 bowls
  • Curd (sour) - 1 bowl
  • Water - as required
  • Salt - as required
  • Peas/ matar - 1 bowl
  • Ginger - as required
  • Green chili - as required
  • Soda/ fruit salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Oil - as required

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add sooji and curd. Mix it properly.
  2. Now, add water and salt. Mix it very well and keep the batter consistency medium. Allow it to rest for half an hour.
  3. Take a mixer jar and add peas, ginger, green chili, and water. Grind it to a medium consistency paste.
  4. Further, mix the peas paste with the sooji batter. Keep the consistency medium.
  5. Now, take the required amount of the batter in a bowl and add soda and salt. Mix it properly in one direction. Do not change the direction.
  6. Take the idli maker and grease it with the oil and pour the batter. Fill the batter up to 3/4 of the mould.
  7. Boil the water in a large vessel and place the idli maker inside it. Cover it with the lid for 20 minutes on a low flame.
  8. After 10 minutes check the idli while placing the knife inside. If the idli sticks to the knife then allow it to cook more.
  9. In between, you can also check water and can add if needed.
  10. After 20 minutes, take the idli maker outside and allow it to cool down for 2 minutes.
  11. Now, takeout the idli with the help of a knife.
